Glad you could take this freebie

glad you could make it

First things first - it's free download time again! This time I've made a version of Glad You Could Make it by Archie Bell and the Drells. I've applied my usual treatment, sharpening things up, notching up the tempo and switching a few bits around. This one's a bit of a bop, and of course it's yours totally free of charge.

Stepping back from a few things for a while…

Now's a good time to mention that I'm taking my foot off the gas with the music production for a while. I've been reassessing what's important to me and what brings me joy, and decided that my energy is better spent elsewhere for a while - namely DJing which I still love rather than the frustratingly difficult business of trying to make music that actually sounds good. I still love it deep down, but I need to look after myself and my family right now. So there won't be another free download for probably a couple of months. I'll keep doing this newsletter though, to try and spread some funky good times through those cold winter months. This isn't the end! ❤️

Latest grooves from the Funkier Sounds Radio Show

FS147

I might have been doing less music production recently, but my radio show is still rumbling along nicely! My latest episode had me doing a moody, deep and groovy hour, with My Mate Kate (who isn't actually my mate, but seems nice) lightening things up nicely with a fun second hour showing us why she's been smashing various festivals this summer. Catch up below, and heads up that the next episode on Monday will be featuring two hours of yours truly - see, told you I was going to be spending more time DJing!

Funkier Sessions is going strong - get involved if you want!

JD Finburg

My mix series Funkier Sessions is blossoming into a wonderful thing, with mixes coming in from all over the world. For my latest episode that has just gone live, we’ve got a special mix from JD Finburg, who has guested on my radio show before. This one’s a Victor Simonelli megamix, featuring a load of proper house music - real bumping, soulful and uplifting stuff - in tribute to the legendary New York DJ and producer. Well worth a listen! And if you want to get involved by contributing your own mix, then get in touch - everyone is welcome whatever their style or skill level… just as long as it’s funky!

Gem of the Month

Yet another one that came to my attention via a sample in a track that I love very much, this one’s a slice of soulful magic called Keep Goin On by Gary Bartz, released at the turn of the 80s. All dramatic strings, serious horns and with a beautiful vocal. Bonus points for the sax solo too. What a tune!

Big thanks for reading to the end - I appreciate you. Take good care of yourself, and I hope to see you again soon ❤️
