Whispers of a free download…

imagination

More free 80s goodness brought up to date for you - this time I’ve taken a track by the Whispers called Imagination and applied the Funkier treatment. Title track of their 10th album, it's an absolute banger or a track that's been a weapon in my crate for years and felt ripe for a bit of beefing up. It’s already a great tune that exudes early 80s boogie funk niceness so I haven’t done loads to it, just the usual crisping up of percussion and making it throb along nicely. Free download of course, help yourself…

Funkier Sounds with DiscoJam

fs126

Episode 126 was another enjoyable one - I had a lovely time in hour one, mixing up all sorts of weirdness. Decided to start slow-ish and build up rather than jump around the BPM, so we go from moody Afro influences up to pumping disco, with a couple of brand spanking new bits from me in there. And hour 2 was bloody good! We were treated to an hour of disco delights from Loughborough-based party starting duo DiscoJam. True to their name, this was a wonderfully put together and expertly mixed journey through disco and nu-disco sounds with a great mix of favourites, lesser-known cuts and a few surprises. Well worth a listen!

Discoholics Anonymous Presents… me!

DA Presents

My friend Ken, head of Discoholics Anonymous, asked me to contribute to his Discoholics Anonymous Presents mix series, and tasked me with creating something a bit special. I did my best to do just that, and came up with a monster of a mix divided into five acts, delving into some of my favourite funky movements and sub genres: Classic funk & soul, P-funk, 80s boogie, funky house and modern galactic boogie. I poured a whole lotta love into this, mixed the whole thing live and managed to cram in a whopping 55 tracks… let me know what you think!

Gem of the Week

A pristine slab of early 80s Britfunk this time - Something That You Got (Real Hot) by Congress. A quick intro then we’re straight down to business with a frenetic bassline, horns, strings - the lot… and a wonderful bridge that soars in occasionally. This one always does the job - it’s real hot!

Thanks for reading, be kind to each other.
