Funkier Fridays 21st July 2023

Greetings, how’s your summer going? I’m on my way down to Westival right now, so let’s keep this one snappy.

This week...

  • Are you feelin’ the free download lurrrve?

  • This is the tune I’ll be editing next soon…

  • Funkier Radio with DJ E9

  • Gem of the Week

Are you Feelin’ the free download lurrrve?

The shortlist

Here's one I made a while back - a chuggy, dubbed out reimagining of Feelin' Love by Soulsearcher. I was very pleased with the concept, but never that happy with my early attempt at mixing. So this version has been polished up a bit, remastered and given some much needed grunt and shine for 2023. Think it sounds quite a bit better… help yourself!

You’ve spoken, and I’ll be editing…

Ginormous thanks to everyone who voted for which song I should edit next. There was a clear winner, so I’ll be attempting not to mess up Cruel Summer by Bananarama. Honestly, it’s one of the trickier ones in the shortlist and I’m not entirely sure which direction I’m going to take it in, so do bear with me - I’m on the case! Might not be done by the end of summer, which is cruel I know. At least one other tune in the shortlist is has been added to my very long to do list of edits as well, but don’t hold your breath.

Funkier Radio with DJ E9

Guest Mixes

My latest radio show guest was DJ E9. E9 is a versatile producer and DJ based in Frankfurt, Germany. He is resident at several radio stations across UK and Europe, playing Funky, Jazzy, and Deep House, and his latest release hit the Beatport Top 100 Melodic House Charts earlier this year. Stephan has treated us to a ‘Gnarly House’ special, full of pumping tunes and housey reworks of familiar tunes. You can also get a sneak preview of a couple of brand new tracks from myself in the first hour.

Gem of the Week

Who’s up for another early 80s boogie banger? This one’s So Good by ADC band, from back in ‘82. This one’s another big basslined monster - synth and slap, just because. We’ve also got a tasty bit of talkbox, some crunchy guitars and a whole lot of attitude. So Good by name, and so, so good!

Hope to see you lovely people very soon…
